If you are the successful applicant, we will offer you the exciting challenge of developing simulations of complex scenes that must include not just the physical behaviour of the Earth's surface, but also represent in-band atmospherics, platform plumes, and countermeasures effects. This needs to run real-time - on high-end processing devices, FPGAs and GPUs - in order that it can exercise both missile seeker hardware and software algorithms; through innovative techniques, such as digital injection directly into the missile electronics or through the seeker optics using scene projector systems. The team is a small highly skilled, and multi-disciplinary team that support the scene generation activities ranging from software and real-time embedded FPGA development, through to hardware testing and validation via experimentation and field trials. You will have the opportunity to work across all these aspects, and we will work with you to develop your skills, knowledge and experience - as well as supporting your ongoing professional development - all while ensuring a good work-life balance. What we're looking for from you: This is a technically focussed role. If you have experience of, and want to develop further in one or more of the following, then this role could be for you... High fidelity modelling of the world ; experience of commercial scene generation tools such as TAITherm, CAMEOSIM, OKTAL is desirable but not essential 3D Graphics experience such as OpenCL, CUDA, GPGPU Software Engineering, Real-time System Firmware Development is also a skill we use within our team ; experience or understanding of this is always beneficial In addition, we also want you to be well-rounded with good general awareness and interest in our wider missile and seeker system topics. Understanding of Electro-Optical radiation, propagation and detection principles, in particular in the infra-red wave-bands. Experience of imaging electro-optic systems is desirable Strong logical and analytical skills ; experience of undertaking data analysis, and simulations using development environments such as Visual Studio, and familiarity with simulations in Matlab and Simulink is also desirable Have a proven track record of on-time delivery; particularly in a dynamic working environment. Able to engage with a broad range of internal and external partners, and forge strategic technical relationships. Be adaptable, self-starting and able to work both independently and as part of a team. Basic project management knowledge, including planning and risk-management is desirable What to expect: We offer opportunities for career progression, paid overtime (subject to level), bonus scheme, comprehensive pension package, annual salary review, collaborative working environment and excellent on-site facilities. We recognise that everyone is unique, and we encourage you to speak to us should you require any advice, support or adjustments throughout our recruitment process. MBDA Missile Systems - Together. For the Future of Defence. Simulation and Modelling Graduate Engineer System modelling is a vital tool used to ensure MBDA provides reliable and cost effective weapon systems to our customers! We build a variety of dynamic system performance and real time training models for MBDA products that are developed and used extensively throughout the product lifecycle, from concept through to in service support. When used internally our performance models allow our system designers to estimate performance, which they can use to guide the product design. For our customer, performance models provide a method of verifying system performance whilst reducing reliance on prohibitively expensive testing and trials. Our training models contribute to a real time training environment for pilots. Once the product is in service, the customer continues to use our models to understand system capability and assist with operator training. What's the opportunity? Models of modern weapon system are made up of a large number of automated subsystems integrated together to provide the overall capability. This provides unique challenges when: developing accurate system - or system of system level - models that are both large in scale and highly sophisticated with many interdependencies; or when developing training models designed to run at real time whilst maintaining an accurate representation of the weapon system. As a model developer this means you will often encounter new and exciting problems which will require you to apply your intuition and innovation to solve. You will learn how to build simulation software in programming languages/environments such as: Mathworks (MATLAB, Simulink and Stateflow) Fortran C/C++ Our teams implement Agile working practices and dynamic working across multiple projects to meet demand, aided by the use of collaborative tools. We also work closely with other departments and companies to integrate subsystem models and design data. From these interactions you will gain a broad understanding of each subsystem that makes up the weapon and how the system architecture makes these subsystems work together to provide an overall capability. This role is best suited to those interested in mathematical modelling and programming, are passionate about solving complex problems within highly technical teams and enjoy working in a supportive environment. The majority of your time you'll be working onsite in an office environment with a team of people around you to support you with your work. Entry Criteria, Salary and Benefits Degree qualified to minimum 2.2 in Mathematics, Physics, Computer Science or Engineering related disciplines. £30,000 starting salary plus £3,000 joining bonus Pension Scheme Access to range of employee discounts including Dining and Lifestyle discounts subsidised gym membership and more Why choose us? MBDA Missile Systems - Together. For the Future of Defence. Electronics Graduate 2023 Join the Electronic Engineering department for a chance to play a fundamental role in bringing together MBDA's missile systems: designing and integrating the electronics that drive our Weapon Control Units, Actuators, Telemetry & Communication Systems and more! We have a reputation for quality and innovation, and we maintain this by encouraging original ideas, innovative approaches and allowing our Engineers the space to design and produce solutions that meet the challenges. What will you be doing? Over the course of your Graduate Scheme in Electronic Engineering you will gain exposure to the full Electronic Engineering product lifecycle, the different electronics that we design, the various teams within the department, and the different projects that we're working on. In addition to this, you will get to know the department, build your network, and get involved with department organisation and management activities. Your Graduate Scheme will consist of four 6-month placements where you will develop your knowledge and gain hands on experience in a combination of the following areas: Motor control and drive systems for Actuation Systems Communications and RF design for Datalinks and Telemetry Systems Safety Critical Arming Units FPGA firmware Digital and microprocessor design for Seeker Systems and Weapon Controller Units Test solutions and equipment New and emerging technologies for Internal Research and Development There may also be opportunity for you to undertake a placement at our manufacturing facility in Bolton or at EE's French office in Paris, France. Placements can be planned to match the technologies that you have specialised in at university, as well as give you the opportunity to try out new ones, and we ensure that all Graduate Engineers experience the entire 'design, make, prove' process, helping you on your way to becoming a well-rounded Engineer. Whilst on the EE Graduate Scheme, you will also gain some early experience in management: organising and leading the EE Summer Placement and work experience program, organising a regular visit to the MBDA EE France office, organising a regular visit to the EE Bolton manufacturing facility, managing the EE laboratory and supporting EE improvements and knowledge management activities.
