Security Engineer for a major cloud communications solutions provider

Up to £48k base (possibly higher for the right candidate) and benefits

Bracknell (some flex for home working)

A brief description of the main purpose of the role

The Security Engineer is responsible for preventing and mitigating security breaches that may arise within our computer systems. You will be an expert in various fields such as information security, network security, and mobile security. You will be responsible for planning, implementing and overseeing the overall system security strategy.


The key deliverables, critical for effective performance e.g. customer satisfaction, and a brief description of why it is important

  • Problem solving: regularly performing security checks and troubleshooting will identify problems in a timely manner.
  • Processes: implementing new processes and solutions will optimise the company’s security system. Tracking existing processes will offer solutions for improvement of the company’s security system.
  • Availability: ensuring 24 hour availability for emergency patching and uninstallation will optimise the company’s security system.


3-5 major areas of responsibility with a brief description of the expected activities


  • Monitoring security and operational logs.
  • Monitoring external security notifications.
  • Monitoring and maintenance of our infrastructure to ensure minimum downtime

Reporting and analytics

  • Responsible for planning, implementing and overseeing the overall system security strategy.
  • Running and analysis of vulnerability fix levels across the platforms.
  • Analysis and resolution of vendor released security bulletins, highlighting high security vulnerabilities.
  • Preparing, maintaining and executing test plans and scripts for storm services, with the ability to adapt to customer’s requirements.


  • Developing and executing platform patching methodologies.


Essential (E) or desirable (D) knowledge, education, experience and skills

Education & Qualifications:Specialised/Technical

Bachelors Degree/equivalent, preferably in a Computer Science or relevant subject, or substantial alternative experience.


Industry standard technical qualifications, i.e. CCNA or OWSE



Good experience in patch remediation with the focus on security/vulnerability research and mitigation


Working knowledge of WSUS, Microsoft Windows Administration, Windows Server (2008 to present) and Pen testing


Strong understanding of network configuration


Good knowledge of JIRA


Good knowledge of standard security practices PCI DSS and CIS Server Hardening


Good knowledge of unix systems


Skills / Aptitude:

Excellent analytical skills and problem solving skills


Excellent telephone manner


Good standard of written and verbal communication


Able to work under pressure and outside of the box


Highly professional working culture, friendly attitude, drive for success

This role interacts with other departments and so the individual must exhibit a “team” attitude in order to make sure the teams receive the information required in a timely and professional manner.

The platform is used 24×7 and across customer sites so there is some expectation to support out of hours from time to time, and to visit customer premises on occasion.
