We require an experienced, dedicated and enthusiastic herdsperson to work alongside the farmer on this 240-cow dairy near St Austell in Cornwall. The successful applicant will assume milking duties for the herd as well as herd health, AI, calving and record keeping. You will also treat lame cows between visits of the hoof trimmer and be involved in grassland management and general stock work. The herd Calves year-round and is milked through a 16:32 Westphalia herringbone parlour with auto ID, wash and ADF. The successful applicant will need to be able to demonstrate recent experience in a similar role as well as being able to operate in a clean and organised fashion. We have contract vacancy for an experienced herdsperson to join a family farming operation near Frome in Somerset. This 400-cow herd of Holsteins are August calving and yielding 9,300 litres on 2 x milking via a 20/40 Swing-over De Laval, Herringbone parlour, with in parlour feed, auto- ID, a flush and segregation gate. Conventional grazing is practiced during the summer and while housed cows get full TMR. The appointed person will need to be focused on clean milk production, be able to manage the herd day-to-day while AI and foot trimming undertaken by other team members. Alston Sutton Farms are a family-run business situated within the Mendip Hills between Cheddar to the east and Burnham on Sea to the west. This is a well-equipped mainly all grass farm that supports 220 high yielding Friesian Holstein cows and followers. The unit consists of a fully automated 24/24 GEA parlour with auto feed feeders and backing gate. Cow housing is cubicles with a mixture of sand and mattress beds plus good handling facilities. DIY AI is carried out with spread block calving from August through to Feb. Cows are grazed with good track access to paddocks this together with grass/maize/whole crop semi-TMR feeding. Youngstock are reared both on the home site and an off lying unit some two miles away. The role is to relief milk for eighty days per annum and assist with the rearing of youngstock, together with general on farm duties.
