Tutoring assesses the gaps in the childrens knowledge and provide sessions that are tailored to their needs and interests. Tutors meet the young person and build a relationship with them at first. This is done by engaging them in activities of interest. When you have built that relationship with the young person, you would then see what their strengths and weaknesses are in each subject (Maths, English and Science) then plan activities/work to support their learning. Engagement can vary for each young person, and it is not an expectation to meet full engagement from the start. It is slow progress - you always go by what they can cope with and their individual needs. A weekly report is then required each week to provide feedback on how much they have engaged and what they have completed with you. This is done via our tutor portal. Mentoring sessions build their confidence, self-esteem, anxiety and give them life skills that they may never have had the privilege of having. It is introducing a positive adult role model into a child's or young person's life, and it can include going out for walks for their mental health, cooking, playing games, going to the beach, dog walks, taking them out to places that interest them and teach them how to effectively go out into the world with confidence. It is providing them with the support and knowledge to become a well-rounded individual. It can also be supporting them with Post 16 options, researching colleges and figuring out their next steps for life. A little bit more information about tuition and mentoring: Tuitions take place at the child's home or local library . Mentoring can start at the home and then once the relationship has been built, you can take them out of the home to do your sessions. Once a vacancy comes in, you will get to read the young person's EHCP form , know why they are out of school and the outcomes for each tuition and then decide whether the vacancy is for you or not. The first day will just be a hello, getting to know the young person and carer. Then the following days you would build up the relationship by doing things that interest that (games etc) and then find the gaps in their learning and plan creative lessons to engage them again in learning. If a carer cancels the sessions because the young person is poorly etc, you will be paid . You would only not be paid if you yourself cancels for illness, appointments etc. However, you can always catch up these hours missed in your other sessions or in half terms, if the carers agree to this. All we require is for you to complete physical timesheets every week with carers and complete a weekly report for each young person to say how they engaged that week, what you did with them, next steps, concerns etc. We have between 1 - 15 hour vacancies which are spread out across the week typically during school hours. This could be set out in the following: This however can be flexible, and some are in less days. A lot of our tutors and mentors also do 2 or 3 tuitions/mentoring sessions a day with different young people, to make up their hours and pay. They are also on going and some are booked in until the end of the academic year.
