Summary: We have an exciting opportunity for a Principal or Associate Flood Risk Consultant to join our flood risk and drainage team, based in either London, Manchester, Leeds, Bristol or Newcastle offices, with the opportunity to work flexibly from home in the future as much as needed to achieve best outcomes. The team undertakes a wide variety of major and challenging infrastructure projects for the private and public sector, across a range of development sectors. Responsibilities: We require an experienced individual of high calibre to lead projects and proposals for the flood risk assessment and drainage team at Tetra Tech in support of planning applications across a range of activities such as flood risk assessment, due diligence, drainage strategy, drainage design and modelling, environmental water assessments and input into Environmental Impact Assessments. We work across a diverse range of clients delivering challenging infrastructure projects for the private and public sector. Our projects typically range in size from £2k to £100M schemes covering defence, transport, local government, infrastructure, healthcare, education, commercial, industrial and residential development. You will work independently and proactively on technical aspects from a project's inception, determining client briefs, to the delivery and close out of projects in accordance with best practice and supported by senior colleagues throughout. You will provide support to our project managers throughout the delivery of projects as well as take on project management responsibility on low risk projects, including taking client facing roles as you develop your career with us. Where appropriate, you will instruct, supervise and mentor junior staff in the design and management of schemes and work with clients to ensure delivery of projects to time and cost, and to help manage change. We provide internal project management training as well as a structured learning and development platform including mentoring and coaching, CPD and training to ensure our staff are the best they can be to deliver excellence to our clients. The projects are UK wide and some travel would be expected on occasion, including working outside normal office hours. Experience in Micro Drainage/Info Drainage Experience in peer review. Experience in IT systems such as ArcGIS, AutoCAD and the Microsoft Office suite. Experience in the preparation of fee proposals and assisting with large bids Be educated to degree level or equivalent in a relevant field and chartered with CIWEM or equivalent. As a senior member of the team you would be actively involved in the continued growth, development and resourcing of the team. Our Newcastle team comprises 11 water environment and flood risk professionals, working collaboratively on projects as an office, region and also nationally across the UK. We are seeking new colleagues who are experienced in the delivery of Flood Risk Assessments to provide technical leadership and mentoring to more junior members of the team. We have a strong portfolio of major infrastructure projects such as HyNet North West, Sizewell C and East West Rail; and with clients such as National Grid, Network Rail and National Highways. We also continue to support our strong portfolio of Local Authority and Lead Local Flood Authority clients, including delivery of transport infrastructure schemes, flood investigations, flood risk management strategies and planning review support. A little more about your role We are looking for a Senior, Principal or Associate consultant who is experienced in the management, coordination and delivery of flood risk assessment projects to be able to direct and lead teams on technically complex projects for a range of clients. The successful candidate will also be able to work seamlessly across other technical areas within the Sustainable Water Management team. This includes but is not limited to flood risk modelling, LLFA technical services and flood management solutions; as well as other water environment technical areas including Water EIA, WFD assessment, permitting applications, geomorphology and BNG. You will contribute to a diverse range of projects but the main focus of your work is likely to be Flood Risk Assessment for major infrastructure projects in the UK and overseas, with wider involvement in flood modelling, flood management and Water EIA as appropriate to individual experience. Your work will be varied but will include technical, management and commercial responsibilities as appropriate. Sharing your technical expertise and mentoring others in the team will also be an important part of your role. Demonstrable experience of leading or major contributor to technical inputs and teams for successful project delivery for planning and permitting for major infrastructure projects. This could include preparation of FRA, Drainage Strategies and Water EIA inputs to planning applications, participation in DCO examinations or planning inquiries, and developing applications for environmental permits. Track record in effective delivery of complex, high profile projects. Experience of the Development Consent Order planning regime for Nationally Significant Infrastructure Projects in the UK is preferred for those applying for the Principal or Associate grade positions. Excellent knowledge of the regulatory context for flood risk planning in the UK. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
