College Community Support Officer

Chichester College Group have an exciting opportunity for you to join us as a College Community Support Officer at our Brighton MET (East Campus). You will join us on a term-time, permenant basis and, in return, we will offer a competitive pro rata salary of £26,716 to £29,196 per annum (i.e. £22,194.83 - £24,255.14).

The College Community Support Officer role:

As our College Community Support Officer, you will provide a familiar, visible, consistent and accessible presence for students, staff and visitors across the College site and be a focal point in relation to their personal safety, wellbeing, supervision and security. You will become an integral part of the Student Wellbeing team encouraging increased community confidence and cohesion.

Key Responsibilities of our College Community Support Officer:

• Provide first response to incidents regarding challenging behaviour and safeguarding across the College site.
• To be aware of any areas of concern and assist managers or appropriate College staff to adopt a collaborative problem solving approach to highlighted issues, and to implement de-escalation techniques and restorative justice.
• To liaise with curriculum and support teams where appropriate to provide advice, guidance and holistic support to students and staff.
• To promote positive behaviour in line with the College s core values.
• To maintain accurate records.
• To liaise with external organisations, as appropriate, including for example, contribution to internal events for road safety, wellbeing and e-safety.
• Where applicable or appropriate, work with Closed Circuit TV (CCTV) and any associated radio links or watch schemes, to provide a proactive and regularly assisted support across the College and as appropriate in the local community.
• Make referrals, as appropriate, to external agencies such as police, social services and other agencies to ensure multi-agency team working takes place to ensure student safety.

Our ideal College Community Support Officer should have the below skills and experience:

• GCSE Maths and English Language or equivalent at C/4 grade or above
• Level 3 qualification in a relevant subject area e.g. Coaching, Health and Social Care, Youth Work
• Experience of working with young people (including 14-19 year olds) and vulnerable adults
• Experience of working with an array of challenging behaviour on site
• Experience delivering training in the workplace
• Experience dealing with disclosures, making referrals to external agencies regarding safeguarding matters
• Knowledge of Microsoft applications, including a working knowledge of databases
• Knowledge of Safeguarding Children and Vulnerable Adults, including Prevent
