TEXO Recruitment are currently looking for an Electrical Maintenance Technician on behalf our external client located in Sunderland. The Electrical Maintenance Technician plays a key role in ensuring engineering excellence across fault resolution, maintenance, and overall site performance. Core responsibilities span Quality, Health & Safety, Manufacturing Performance, and Engineering Support. The role focuses on maximising operational effectiveness, reliability, cost efficiency, and sustainability through the application of preventative, predictive, and corrective maintenance. Success requires a commitment to continuous improvement, adherence to mechanical and electrical best practices, and strong diagnostic capability (MTTR/MTBF) to minimise downtime and enhance performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Contribute to delivering the Engineering department s vision and strategic plan by developing and executing strategies for energy, equipment, and maintenance that support site growth in line with the Clearly Work System (CWS).
- Drive the development of a world-class engineering function by fostering a culture of high performance, encouraging individuals to reach their full potential, and aligning team efforts with business objectives.
- Collaborate with production core teams to enhance business performance, strengthen engineering expertise, and promote a professional, team-oriented manufacturing culture.
- Develop, implement, and manage effective strategies for mechanical and electrical systems, ensuring budgetary control to achieve cost-efficient outcomes.
- Proactively identify and implement opportunities for improvement within engineering operations, embedding a culture of continuous improvement across both engineering and production teams.
- Assess and address operator training needs where appropriate, ensuring capability and competence development.
- Ensure compliance with company policies and statutory regulations regarding health, safety, and environment, supporting site-wide systems for both staff and contractors.
- Partner with stakeholders to plan and deliver capital engineering projects, ensuring completion within agreed cost, quality, and time parameters.
- Act as a proactive team player who builds credibility quickly, enhances the reputation of the engineering department, and champions engineering excellence through coaching, training, and team development.
Essential Requirements
- Minimum 3 years multi-skilled (electrical & mechanical) engineering/maintenance experience in a KPI-driven manufacturing environment.
- Electrical Engineering HNC/HND (or equivalent) plus 3+ years relevant experience, or 6+ years transferable experience.
- Proven expertise in planned, preventative, and breakdown maintenance across production lines.
- Strong knowledge of HACCP, Health & Safety, and Environmental legislation.
- Extensive experience managing Safety Systems, including Lock-off/Isolation, Risk Assessments, and Permits to Work.
- Production line experience, ideally FMCG.
- Skilled in PLC, MMI, and SCADA systems (Siemens S7 & Allen Bradley preferred).
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and negotiation skills.
- IT literate (Word, Excel).
Desirable Requirements
- Knowledge of inverters/controls (Danfoss, Endress & Hauser, IFM).
- Experience with can seaming/filling (Matrix, Angelus).
- Experience with robotics (Kuka, FANUC).
- 18th Edition Electrical Regulations.
- PLC fault-finding qualifications (Parmley Graham or equivalent).
- Lean/TPM manufacturing methods.
- City & Guilds Electrical Testing & Inspection (2391).
