Our client are seeking a talented and motivated Senior Accountant to join a forward-thinking public sector organisation on a contract basis. About the Role

As a Senior Accountant, you will report to the Principal Accountant within the Accounting section and work as part of the wider finance function, supporting financial operations. Your role will be to provide accountancy support to Heads of Service & Budget Managers. You will assist these Managers in managing their financial affairs, which includes preparing the Revenue Budgets and Final Accounts, as well as regular monitoring of specified services during the annual budget cycle, closure of accounts, and monthly monitoring reporting cycles. This work will be carried out in accordance with set deadlines.

Your role will also include participation in specified projects, giving ad hoc financial advice, and proposing options and solutions for dealing with financial issues raised by departmental projects. Your manager will empower you to apply our principles of resilience, adaptability, and participation to your working practices.

What You Will Bring to the Role:

AAT Level 3 qualification (or equivalent), or you are actively working towards a recognised professional accountancy qualification. (AAT Level 4 is highly desirable).

Proven experience in a management accounting environment.

Strong numeracy skills and a solid understanding of core accountancy principles.

Proficiency in using computerised financial information systems and a high degree of skill with spreadsheets.

An excellent communicator, capable of explaining complex financial information clearly and persuasively.

A natural team player with the ability to build strong, collaborative relationships with colleagues.

Highly organised with a proven ability to manage your own workload and meet tight deadlines.

Previous experience in local government finance would be a significant advantage.
