Job Description

Our client, a London, Local Authority is seeking an interim Head of Digital, for an initial 6 months, however, the role is likely to run for 12+ moths.
Applicants must have experience at this level, from a Council/Local Authority.

The Head of Digital will provide strategic leadership in shaping, delivering, and embedding digital transformation across the authority, ensuring that services are modern, user-centred, and inclusive.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the development and delivery of the council's digital transformation roadmap, aligning with corporate priorities and residents' needs.

  • Champion a customer-first, digital-by-design approach, ensuring services are accessible, inclusive, and easy to use.

  • Drive the adoption of innovative technologies such as cloud, AI, automation and data platforms to enhance service efficiency and resident experience.

  • Collaborate with senior leaders, councillors, and stakeholders to ensure the digital strategy supports organisational objectives and public value.

  • Provide clear leadership to the Digital Services team, fostering a culture of innovation, agility, and continuous improvement.

  • Work closely with Data, ICT, and Cybersecurity functions to ensure resilient, secure, and compliant digital services.

  • Oversee the design and delivery of end-to-end digital service redesign, embedding agile and human-centred design practices.

  • Manage relationships with suppliers and partners to ensure value for money and robust delivery of digital services.

  • Build digital skills and capability across the organisation, supporting staff development, digital literacy, and cultural change.

  • Ensure digital inclusion and accessibility, addressing barriers faced by vulnerable, excluded, or hard-to-reach residents.

  • Monitor and report on digital performance metrics, ensuring services meet agreed outcomes, KPIs, and statutory requirements.

  • Act as the council's strategic voice on digital, influencing regional and national forums, and representing the authority in partnerships and collaborations.
