Governance Lawyer to advise on complex constitutional and governance issues at the heart of local decision-making.

Governance Lawyer
LOCATION: East London
RATE: 45-55ph LTD ( 48.46ph PAYE inc. holiday pay, 43.24ph PAYE exc. Holiday pay)
CONTRACT: 3 months with possibility of extension, 36 hours per week
Key Responsibilities: - Advise council officers, Cabinet Members, committees, and elected members on governance and constitutional matters.
- Support the Monitoring Officer and Deputy Monitoring Officer with statutory responsibilities.
- Provide legal insight on FOI, subject access requests, and regulatory complaints.
- Ensure decision-making meets the highest standards of transparency and good governance.
About You: - Qualified solicitor, barrister, or chartered legal executive.
- Strong knowledge of local government law and governance frameworks.
- Experience supporting Monitoring Officers with statutory duties.
- Excellent problem-solving, risk management, and communication skills.
