SEN Teaching Assistant

Teaching Assistant needed for a Reception class in Blackburn

We're currently working with a primary school who need an experienced SEN Teaching Assistant.
This position involves working 1:1 with a non-verbal child with additional needs. We're looking for someone patient, calm, and confident with challenging behaviour and personal care.

About the role:

You'll be supporting a child in Reception who needs one-to-one support. Your day-to-day will include:

• One-to-one support throughout lessons and playtime

• Helping to implement communication strategies (e.g., visuals, Makaton, PECS)

• Providing personal care (including toileting)

• Supporting with emotional regulation and managing behaviours

• Working closely with the class teacher, SENCO, and other professionals

Who we're looking for:

• Level 2 Teaching Assistant qualification (or equivalent)

• At least 6 months of experience in a similar role within a school setting

• Confidence in working with children with SEND and communication needs

• A calm and positive attitude when supporting children with challenging behaviour

• A genuine passion for helping children thrive in the early years

Bonus if you have:

• Experience with the EYFS curriculum

• Knowledge of non-verbal communication tools

• A current enhanced DBS on the update service (or willing to apply)
