About us and our ecological work We are a small but growing UK-registered charity which undertakes projects that protect and restore wild landscapes, helping to provide a future for all life on earth. We use the skills and expertise of our multi-disciplinary team (spanning science, law, economics, technology and culture) to develop projects that protect and restore wild, natural landscapes. Our ecological work spans two exciting fronts: restoring missing species through projects like The Missing Lynx, Pine Marten and White-Tailed Eagle reintroductions in Northern England; and securing the protection of ecological restoration sites as a Responsible Body for conservation covenants through which we aim to set the gold standard, supporting ambitious, mission-aligned projects such as Nattergal s High Fen site. About the role We are seeking to hire a dynamic and passionate Senior Ecologist to join The Lifescape Project, to play an integral role in the restoration of charismatic species to the UK and in landscape scale habitat restoration. As a Senior Ecologist, your work will cover two distinct areas which are broadly: BNG-associated site assessments; and practical planning and feasibility aspects of species reintroductions. Salary: £40,000 - £42,000 per annum, depending on experience + benefits. Hours: Full-time, 40 hours per week. Contract: Fixed-term contract for 12 months initially. They are seeking an experienced ecologist to take a leadership role in the design delivery team-guiding ecological design, ensuring biodiversity is protected and enhanced, and driving the project towards its No Net Loss goal. This involves embedding ecological mitigation into civil engineering and landscape design, while meeting HS2 standards, legal requirements, and industry best practice. The role will bring inspiration, innovation, and technical expertise to the Natural Capital team. Responsibilities include producing high-quality ecological reports, managing protected species mitigation from design through monitoring, and ensuring habitat creation and enhancement measures are implemented and adapted based on real-world outcomes. Key priorities include safeguarding existing habitats, assuring quality across contractor work, and managing ecological work packages to keep construction and mitigation aligned. When challenges arise, the successful candidate will help deliver practical solutions to keep the HS2 Green Corridor on track. Responsibilities include: Undertaking tree surveys to BS5837:2012 Preparing high-quality arboricultural reports and impact assessments Liaising with clients, local planning authorities, and design teams Providing expert arboricultural advice to support planning applications Assisting with tree protection strategies and mitigation measures Supporting senior consultants with project management and delivery Key Requirements: Degree or diploma in Arboriculture or a related subject A minimum of 2 years' relevant experience in a consultancy or similar role Proficient in tree identification and surveying Knowledge of BS5837:2012 and relevant planning legislation Excellent written and verbal communication skills Full UK driving licence Membership of the Arboricultural Association or progress toward it is desirable Proficiency in CAD or GIS systems is advantageous but not essential You will be working within a multi-disciplinary team, working alongside a team of ecologists, landscape architects and environmental consultants.
